North Sea Farm 1 on display at Expo 2026, Osaka, Japan

The Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, is officially open. Until 13 October, over 28 million visitors are expected to explore the theme of ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’.
Among the 10 most promising Dutch innovations on display is North Sea Farm #1 – the world’s first commercial seaweed farm located within an offshore wind farm.
This pioneering project is funded by Amazon’s global Right Now Climate Fund and aims to demonstrate how seaweed farming can contribute to a sustainable future through carbon capture, circular food systems, and efficient use of offshore space.
Although we are not present in Osaka ourselves, we are honoured that North Sea Farm #1 is showcased on the global stage as part of the Dutch contribution to Expo 2025.
