roadmap of the seaweed sector

This is what scaling up the seaweed sector can look like:

What is the potential of European seaweed production? What will be the economic, social and environmental impacts of scaling up? And how can the seaweed sector look in 2030, 2040 and 2050? Answers you will find in the interactive roadmap of North Sea Farmers, a visual tool as result of the collaboration during the project Wier&Wind.

Actual and future situation

In order to have a positive effect on the environment as well as the sustainable goals of the EU, the locally based seaweed needs scale, but also limitations. This especially designed interactive roadmap, shows the actual situation of the seaweed sector in the Greater North Sea region right now, and in the timestamps 2030, 2040 and 2050. For nearshore-, onshore- and offshore production of seaweed.

Steps towards the future

With the roadmap North Sea Farmers wants to create a common storyline for the potential of European seaweed, and to in collaboration with its members approach the steps necessary for the future. The roadmap can be used to present the potential of European seaweed production, and answer questions about the impacts and timeline of scaling up the sector.

The roadmap is a Wier&Wind Deliverable
