“Hotelschool The Hague supports this initiative because we want our students to connect directly with practice. This is a perfect example of how we can create a positive ecological impact in the future within our sector. It shows how circular and local materials such as seaweed can play a role in the world of tomorrow,” says Judith van Diepen, Manager Real-Life Learning, Hotelschool The Hague.
“It is amazing to see the wide range of applications of seaweed. We are thrilled to collaborate in this pop-up Seaweed Hotel Room with European entrepreneurs, artists and designers, as well as with Hotelschool The Hague. They are educating the future leaders of the hospitality sector. With this initiative we demonstrate new ways of thinking, and showcase the diversity of seaweed applications,” explains Elisabeth Rompa Sinke, Business Manager at North Sea Farmers.
Why seaweed?
Seaweed is one of the most sustainable raw materials we know: it grows without freshwater, fertilisers or agricultural land, can be farmed locally, and has a very low CO₂ footprint. This makes it an ideal ingredient to make existing materials and applications more sustainable.
